[size=3]《星之海洋 初次启航》是以1996年于任天堂 SFC - Super Family Computer 家用主机上推出的同名作品为基础所重制，大幅强化影音表现，角色设计与系统部分也大幅翻新，并加入全语音演出与动画影片。游戏画面全面重制，配合PSP的“16:9”宽屏幕比例，背景并由SFC原作的2D点阵绘图改为细致3D绘图构成；游戏角色由知名动画制作公司Production I.G制片重新设计，并加入全程语音演出、对话表情演出以及全新绘制的片头和剧情卡通动画影片等。战斗系统也大幅度革新，同时也承袭了《星之海洋2》的立体战场战斗系统，并以实时3D绘图方式来呈现细致的场景与精彩的战斗特效。
